Mohs Skin Cancer Surgery

Mohs surgery, the gold standard for skin cancer removal and reconstruction, is considered the most effective technique for treating many skin cancers, including basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), the two most common types of skin cancer as well as melanomas. Sometimes called Mohs micrographic surgery, the procedure is done in stages, including lab work, while the patient waits. Generally, immediately following the Mohs surgery to remove the skin cancer, which takes the least mount of healthy tissue, reconstruction is done the same day as the removal of the skin cancer. This saves patients time and speeds recovery. By removing the least amount of healthy tissue, Mohs surgery results in the most superior final results and lessens any visible scarring.

Dr. Henry is known for end results being almost undetectable that any surgery has occurred. These results are all dependent on how large the skin cancer is when removed. It is crucial that adults over the age of 40 and earlier, if skin cancers run in the family or other risk factors exist, to have an annual in-office skin exam to check for any worrisome areas on the skin. Experts agree that annual in-office skin exams and monthly self-checks at home are the best way to catch any skin cancers early, offering the best scenario for complete removal of the skin cancer.

At Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center, PLLC, we are fortunate to have Dr. Henry, the most experienced and highly trained Mohs surgeon in Northwest Arkansas, as the director of our clinics. Having performed over 17,000 Mohs surgeries to date, Dr. Henry is one of only nine Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in Arkansas. Fellowship-trained is the highest level of training surgeons who specialize in the Mohs procedure can attain. There are only 1,500 Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeons worldwide.

I had an allergic reaction that went out of control. My face was very swollen and I was covered in hives. At the time we didn’t have any idea what caused it. I went to urgent care and was given a shot the first time to calm the reaction, and that did take away some of the swelling but not all. Then the reaction started to ramp back up again and the hives and swelling started to return. On my second trip to urgent care, I was able to get a referral to Advanced Dermatology and an appointment the same day, which I was very grateful for as I was getting pretty desperate. The doctor was very professional, looked me over, asked questions concerning what happened and prescribed what she thought was needed. The medicine seems to be working great. My face and neck look almost normal after a day and my hives are leaving. Thank you!

Emily and Samantha were amazing. I met with Emily a while back for a lip filler consultation, she answered all my questions and the questions I didn’t know I had. She told me exactly what to expect and how to prepare. When I came in for my appointment, Samantha was extremely friendly and kept me posted while I waited. Emily came in and we chatted through what I wanted and didn’t want. I showed her pictures and she was able to explain to me how we could accomplish the look that I wanted. She worked quickly, and asked me throughout how I was doing and if I wanted to see at any point. At the end we talk through what I should expect to feel and see, like swelling, and things I should and shouldn’t do for the next several hours. Now, a few days later, I am so incredibly impressed with her work. She gave me exactly what I wanted and it looks so natural.
