A 74-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the cheek just below her eye—an area where the skin is thin, sensitive, and plays a key role in facial expression and symmetry. Given the proximity to the lower eyelid and the importance of preserving both function and appearance, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery for precise removal and optimal aesthetic outcome.
Mohs surgery offers the highest cure rate for non-melanoma skin cancers and is especially effective in high-risk facial areas. The technique removes the cancer layer by layer, with each section examined under a microscope until the area is completely clear.
