A 69-year-old male patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the nose—one of the most common and challenging locations for skin cancer treatment. Due to the nose’s central facial position and structural complexity, Dr. Lance Henry, Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery to ensure precise removal and optimal cosmetic results.
Mohs surgery is the most effective method for treating BCCs on the face, particularly the nose. It involves removing the cancer layer by layer and evaluating each under a microscope until the margins are clear. This technique allows the surgeon to fully remove the cancer while conserving as much healthy skin as possible—a key factor for both appearance and function.
In this case, Dr. Henry successfully removed the BCC and then expertly reconstructed to preserve the natural shape and definition of the nose. Just one month after surgery, the “after” photo reveals smooth skin, excellent contour retention, and minimal visible scarring.
