Patient Story: Basal Cell Carcinoma on the Nose Treated with Mohs Surgery
A 79-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on her nose—a high-risk and high-visibility area where function and appearance are closely linked. Due to the tumor’s location and the importance of minimizing scarring, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery for precise removal and optimal cosmetic outcome.
Mohs surgery is the treatment of choice for facial skin cancers because it allows for step-by-step removal of cancerous tissue while sparing as much healthy skin as possible. This is especially valuable on the nose, where every millimeter of preserved tissue helps retain natural shape and facial balance.
After removing the BCC, Dr. Henry reconstructed the site with great attention to nasal contour and skin texture. At six weeks post-surgery, the “after” photo shows excellent healing: healthy skin regeneration, preserved nasal definition, and minimal visible scarring.
