Patient Story: Basal Cell Carcinoma on the Bridge of the Nose Treated with Mohs Surgery
A 65-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the bridge of her nose—a central, high-visibility location where both cosmetic and structural considerations are vital. To ensure complete cancer removal while protecting the appearance and function of the nose, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery.
Mohs surgery is especially effective for nasal BCCs due to its ability to remove the tumor layer by layer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. This precision is crucial on the nose bridge, where skin is thin, and the risk of cosmetic distortion is higher.
Following successful cancer removal, Dr. Henry carefully reconstructed the surgical site to match the natural slope and contour of the nose bridge. At six weeks post-op, the “after” photo reveals smooth healing, minimal visible scarring, and excellent symmetry—an outstanding result for such a prominent area.
