Patient Story: Basal Cell Carcinoma on the Bridge of the Nose Treated with Mohs Surgery
An 80-year-old male patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the bridge of his nose—a prominent, high-exposure facial area where skin cancer removal must balance complete clearance with aesthetic preservation. To ensure the best possible outcome, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery.
Mohs surgery is the gold standard for facial BCCs, especially in cosmetically sensitive areas like the nose. It allows for cancer removal layer by layer, with each layer examined under a microscope to confirm clear margins. This method preserves as much healthy tissue as possible while ensuring the tumor is completely eliminated.
After successful removal, Dr. Henry reconstructed the area with careful attention to the natural slope and symmetry of the nose bridge. At six weeks post-op, the “after” photo reveals smooth healing, even tone, and minimal scarring—demonstrating a seamless blend with the surrounding skin and excellent preservation of the nasal contour.
