Patient Story: Basal Cell Carcinoma on the Nose Treated with Mohs Surgery
A 70-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on her nose—a central and highly visible part of the face where both functional and cosmetic outcomes are essential. To ensure precise cancer removal with the best possible aesthetic result, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery.
Mohs surgery is the most advanced treatment available for skin cancer in cosmetically sensitive areas. Its tissue-sparing approach involves removing thin layers of skin and examining each under a microscope until all cancer cells are eliminated. This technique ensures full tumor removal with minimal impact to surrounding healthy tissue—making it ideal for nasal skin.
After the procedure, Dr. Henry performed a careful reconstruction to preserve the natural shape and symmetry of the patient’s nose. At six weeks post-op, the “after” photo reveals impressive healing: smooth skin, consistent tone, and virtually no signs of surgical intervention.
This case demonstrates how expert-level Mohs surgery can achieve optimal outcomes even in the most visible facial areas. The patient experienced a straightforward recovery and was able to resume normal activities quickly—free from skin cancer and with her confidence fully restored.
Her result is a testament to the power of early detection and highly specialized surgical care in treating facial BCCs.
