Patient Story: Basal Cell Carcinoma on the Bridge of the Nose Treated with Mohs Surgery
An 82-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) on the bridge of her nose—a central, cosmetically sensitive area where any surgical procedure must be approached with exceptional precision. For the best outcome, Dr. Lance Henry, double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon, and the most experienced Fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in the region, recommended Mohs micrographic surgery.
Mohs surgery is the preferred treatment for facial skin cancers because it offers the highest cure rate while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. On the bridge of the nose—where skin is tight and the risk of visible scarring is high—this tissue-sparing approach is especially valuable.
After removing the cancer, Dr. Henry performed a precise reconstruction to protect the nose’s natural contour and ensure a seamless cosmetic result. At six weeks post-op, the “after” photo shows excellent healing: restored skin texture, even tone, and minimal scarring—demonstrating both surgical accuracy and exceptional care.
This case highlights how advanced Mohs technique, paired with expert reconstruction, can yield outstanding results even in older patients with thinner, slower-healing skin. The patient recovered well and now enjoys peace of mind, knowing the skin cancer is fully removed and her facial appearance remains beautifully intact.
