Summer-ize your skincare

It’s a great time to start thinking about seasonal adjustments to your skincare routine and alter your skincare for summer. Obviously, the most important step (as it should be year-round) is your sunscreen! (My personal go-to – anything by EltaMD!) Both our team here at Revive Medical Spa, LLC and the medical providers at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center, PLLC follow these guidelines for sunscreen:

Broad-spectrum (UVA / UVB protection)

SPF 30+

Additional sun safety includes limiting sun exposure when the sun is the strongest between 10am and 4pm, seeking shade, wearing sunscreen every day (inside/outside, cloudy/sunny) and protective clothing to shield yourself from the sun, wearing a broad brimmed hat, and don’t forget your sunglasses. Sunglasses protect the delicate skin around the eyes.

UV rays can reach you even when you’re trying to avoid them – penetrating clouds and glass and bouncing off of snow, water and sand. What’s more, sun damage accumulates over the years, from prolonged outdoor exposure to simple activities like walking the dog, going from your car to the store and bringing in the mail.

Did you know 90% of aging is caused by the UV rays emitted by the sun? It’s so important to protect your skin from the sun’s dangerous UV rays and from those early signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

Pro Tip #1 – Try replacing your heavy foundation out for one of EltaMD’s tinted SPF facial sunscreens during the summer (like EltaMD UV Elements Tinted or UV Clear Tinted), add a little concealer, and you’ve got yourself a nice, breathable makeup routine for summer.

With this new season comes a change in the weather, higher humidity leads to an increase in sweating. Sweat mixes with our natural oils and clogs pores, leading to acne breakouts. Which is why its a great time to add Rhonda Allison’s Beta Green Tea Cleanser into your regimen! This cleanser uses salicylic acid to combat acne and cleans pores while soothing green tea evokes anti-inflammatory properties.

Hydration is key during the summer. With a higher rate of fluid loss, thanks to all that extra sweating, it’s important to stay hydrated! Did you know by the time you feel thirsty, you have probably already lost two or more cups of your total body water composition. To stay hydrated drink plenty of water throughout the day. Carry a bottle of water with you daily. Keep a bottle of water nearby and refill regularly.

Your skin needs that hydration just as much as your body. Give HA5 from SkinMedica a try. With five different types of hyaluronic acid, this skin hydrator is sure to do the trick! (It even helps to plump and ease the look of fine lines, BONUS).

Pro Tip #2 – Wet your hands a little when applying HA5. Having your hands slightly wet adds moisture for the hyaluronic acid in HA5 to bind to and hydrates your skin even further. Plus, the water helps the product go on a little bit easier and smoother.

Lastly, keep up with your monthly facials! Summer is the perfect time to get a HydraFacial or DiamondGlow.

HydraFacial® is a multi-step treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, and vacuum extracts, removing impurities and replenishing vital nutrients to the skin. HydraFacial can target specific skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation, through specially formulated Boosters. Perfect for all skin types, this treatment provides immediate results in as little as 30 minutes. This treatment leaves your skin feeling refreshed, renewed, and invigorated. The deep cleanse, exfoliation, and extractions are just what the skin needs during these hot months!

DiamondGlow™ is a patented, non-invasive, 3-in-1 dermatological treatment that simultaneously exfoliates, extracts, and infuses skin with condition-specific serums for an all-inclusive treatment in one step. It is the first and only treatment of its kind, where serum is infused deep into the skin at just the right time of exfoliation. With DiamondGlow facial treatments, you can improve hyperpigmentation, dark spots, sun damage, sallow skin, aging skin with fine lines and wrinkles, dry and dehydrated skin, enlarged pores, oily-prone skin, congested and acne-prone skin, rough skin texture and discoloration and sagging around delicate eyes and lips.

Pro Tip #3 – Want to level up your facial? Add dermaplaning before any facial to further any exfoliation and help all the products being applied penetrate even more.
