Your consultation begins with a comprehensive skin evaluation and discussion of your treatment goals. Based on your concerns, your provider will recommend the Pearl® treatment option best suited for your skin.
To maximize comfort, topical numbing, Nitronox®, Zimmer cooling, nerve blocks, or prescribed medications may be recommended depending on your treatment plan.
Upper blepharoplasty is performed in our outpatient surgical suite using local anesthesia. During your consultation, Dr. Henry will evaluate your eyelids, discuss your goals, explain the procedure, and answer all of your questions.
If your eyelid drooping extends beyond excess skin alone, Dr. Henry may also evaluate you for ptosis repair, a procedure that lifts the eyelid muscle in addition to removing excess skin.
A carefully placed incision is made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Excess skin—and when appropriate, a small amount of fat or muscle—is removed before the incision is meticulously closed.
Following surgery, it’s normal to experience:
Most swelling and bruising improve significantly within one to two weeks, and many patients feel comfortable returning to work in approximately 7–10 days.
• Use cool compresses or ice packs as directed.
• Sleep with your head elevated for several days.
• Use prescribed eye drops or ointments.
• Wear dark sunglasses outdoors.
• Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) if needed, as directed by your surgeon.
• Follow all postoperative instructions.
• Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least one week.
• Swimming or vigorous physical activity.
• Smoking during the healing process.
• Rubbing your eyes.
• Wearing contact lenses until approved by your surgeon.
Upper blepharoplasty results are long lasting. Many patients enjoy their results for 5–10 years or longer, although the natural aging process continues over time.
Most patients return to work and normal daily activities within 7–10 days. Swelling and bruising continue improving over the following weeks.
Incisions are carefully hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, making scars difficult to notice once fully healed.
