THE SCIENCE BEHIND Cosmetic LIGHT & LASER TREATMENTS
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED BY COSMETIC LASER OR PULSED LIGHT TREATMENTS?
Changes to the skin on your face, neck, chest, and back of your hands, such as fine lines, wrinkles, rough blotchy patches, and deep expression lines, are all conditions suitable for cosmetic laser treatments, laser skin resurfacing, and pulsed light treatments.
These changes to your skin are a result of aging, unfortunately, but are accelerated or increased with sun exposure / UV damage (photo-aging).
Additional factors can cause changes to your skin, which can also be treated with lasers. Smoking, drinking alcohol, and pollution can all cause changes to our skin – fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, redness, hyperpigmentation. Other conditions that can be treated include broken capillaries, spider veins, acne scars, chicken pox scars, surgical scars, and skin discolorations. Laser treatments can also be used for laser hair removal and the laser tattoo removal.
The Pearl Laser Skin Resurfacing, for example, is a treatment for dramatically reducing lines, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation resulting from aging and/or sun damage.
From resurfacing skin and erasing the signs of aging and hyper-pigmentation to acne scar reduction, laser treatments can address all of these concerns.
Further, lasers can aid in increasing your body’s own production of collagen. Collagen is key in helping skin cells renew and repair themselves. As we age, our bodies produce less collage, which gives the skin structure and strength. Certain laser treatments cause controlled damage to the skin, causing the skin to heal itself by upping your production of collagen.
We offer the most advanced cosmetic laser and pulsed light technology available and combine it with the most in-depth training possible. We recommend starting with a consultation to create a complete treatment plan. Talk with one of our skin experts about reversing the signs of aging, UV/ environmental damage, or diminishing the appearance of any scarring.
HOW DO COSMETIC LASER TREATMENTS WORK?
Cosmetic laser treatments work by using light-based energy (the laser) to deliver energy to a specific chromophore or the section of a molecule that gives it color. The chromophores laser treatments typically target are brown melanin (pigment in skin and hair), red hemoglobin (in blood and blood vessels), or water (in the skin).
By specifically delivering energy through laser treatments to these color targets, we are able to eliminate them safely and not damage the surrounding skin and tissue. These treatments restore tone and glow to your skin through the formation of a completely new skin layer and by boosting collagen and elastin production through controlled damage to the dermis layer in the skin. Some examples are: Laser Hair Removal which targets the melanin or pigment in the hair and Laser Tattoo Removal, which targets the pigment or ink in the tattoo.
HOW CAN YOU CORRECT HYPERPIGMENTATION?
Photo-aging is a combination of browns and reds and must be treated simultaneously to alleviate both. For global color correction, the treatment of choice has been intense pulsed light which can be achieved with our LimeLight™ treatment. Laser Genesis and Pico Genesis™ have both gained worldwide popularity for achieving brighter, more uniform skin without downtime due to their less invasive nature.
